shinjin kouen (新人公演): literally, "newcomer performance"

Every performance shown at the Takarazuka Grand Theater / Tokyo Takarazuka Theater has one night when the junior stars of the troupe (ken 7 and under, see kenkyuuka) perform in the lead roles. It provides the junior stars with valuable stage experience and public exposure.

The first shinjin kouen was for Snow Troupe's "Hana no Utage" on Aug. 19th, 1958. From 1968 on, there has always been one or two shinjin kouen per theater, per show. The ken 7 rule was established in 1975.
